How To Knit A Beanie Hat

The hat pattern is easy to make, with beginner knitters in mind.

Using knit and purl stitches, you will create ribbing, learning to knit in the round and it will also introduce you to decreasing and shaping.

This knitted hat has two colours, so if you have never knit with more than one colour, it will also introduce you to stranded colourwork.

Beanie Hat

I made the beanie hat using two yarns – drops Eskimo Print which is 100% wool in the colour 28.

The colour is perfect for winter and reminds me of the forest with all of those different shades of green.

I also used Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick and Quick yarn in fisherman for the top of the hat.

Knitting In The Round

I knit this hat on size 10 mm (US 15) 16″ circular needles, so there was no seaming involved, just a few loose ends to sew in at the end.

If you are new to using circulars, once you get used to them, they soon become your favourites to work on.

I find it difficult to knit hats flat and I don’t like to seam them at the end, it just feels wrong somehow!

The Knitting Basics

The hat uses basic knitting stitches – knit and purl, to create 1×1 ribbing for the brim of the hat.

If you are a beginner it will also introduce you to shaping through simple decreases for the crown of the hat.

The hat can be worn as a slouchy beanie or more fitted.

  • How to knit in the round

Beanie Hats For Women

This hat pattern for women is great for any beginners who are looking for an easy project, as it is perfect for practising the basic knitting stitches.

The hat size is for adults and can also be adapted if you want to make it smaller or larger, just measure the circumference of the recipients head and adjust the number of stitches you cast on.

For example, I cast on 38 stitches for a woman, but for some people, you may need to cast on 40 stitches or more (or less, for example, 36 sts if they have a small head).

Easy Fair Isle Hat Pattern

This hat is perfect for fall or winter days walking through the park, wearing on the way to work or even walking the dog!

Wherever you want to wear this hat, it will be sure to keep you warm and toasty, protecting you from the cold winds and icy temperatures.

The temperatures where I live in Corfu, Greece, don’t get as cold as other places obviously but I still need a warm hat in the winter weather.
